Big weekend of racing in the West

The Ballinrobe 2 day will again attract a big field with 100 plus riders signed up for Ireland’s only handicapped stage race.

Paul Griffin stands out as the clear favourite as he was 2nd in last weekend Suirvalley 3 day, but will have to contend with the likes of , Murphy Surveyors and Stamullen teams and with Castlebar CC fielding a big team eager to retain the trophy as last year winners with Patrick Clarke, recently crowned National Junior champion Charles Prendergast riding on the Connacht team is another rider who could surprise..

Saturday stage is a little hillier than previous editions with 5 categorised climbs, this will suit the A cat riders who start a few minutes behind the C and Ladies and Over 50 riders.

Sunday TT stage could have a bearing on the overall with 8k Test against the clock, the strong Time Trialist like Simon Coughlan the recent European Master Pursuit champion will be gunning for this stage and maybe even the overall.

Stage 2B is a new edition to the race with 2 laps of 43k over open undulating roads around North Galway which will make it hard to control for any one club team.

The Western Lakes club is proud to be Sponsored by Marrey bikes and Connemara for the event and hopes everyone enjoys the weekend.
