Club awards

Remember to book your ticket for next Saturday the 17th of October, Tickets can be purchased At Marrey Bikes or from Tom Kelly or Padraig Marrey and from Martin Mc Nally and Michael Brady from Covey wheelers. Presentation will kick off at 8.30pm in Gannon’s Bar restaurant, food and craic galore.

Special guests on the night will be the legendary Westport cyclists of the 50’s Mickey Palmer and his club racing partner Mickey Berry

There will also be a DVD of different types of cycling and photos of club outing dating back over the 10 year the club has been formed.

BIKES BACK TO CENTRE

Any one who has borrowed or hired a club bike during the year are requested to give them back to committee members by Monday evening the 12th of October at the latest, please make sure they come back in the condition that you received them.

FITNESS CLASSES

Fitness and Spinning classes returns.

With winter fast approaching and a return to the long dark nights what better way to keep in shape than take up a fitness or spinning class.

The classes are designed to cater for the needs of everyone regardless of fitness and ability.

Fitness and circuit class

The 45minute Fitness classes, are designed to work on all the muscle groups to help strengthen and tone the whole body.

Starting on Monday the 12th of October at 7.30pm and will right through till March 2010 at the cycling centre, all that is required is a towel, suitable clothing, shoes and a bottle of water.

Spinning classes with a difference.

These classes every year are always over subscribed so book early. Participants can use their own bike that attaches to the special upright rollers. If you don’t have a bike that’s not a problem as there are plenty of bikes to choose from.

This class works on fat burning and development of the cardiovascular system much like what a run or a cycle does out doors.

Again all that is required is suitable shoes and clothing and towel and a bottle of water.

There are 2 classes available starting on Thursday the 15th of October at the cycling centre. By supporting these classes you also help fund the cycling centre.

Class 1, 7-7.50pm

Class 2, 8. 8.50pm

BMX OPEN DAY

Western Lakes CC will hold round 2 of the BMX League on Saturday the 24th of October at 11am sharp, the league is open to all categories from adult right through to U8’s.

A variety of races and jump and skill competitions will take place during the day.

An open session will be held where jumps and specific BMX skills will be thought by experts.

Connacht AGM

Will take place at the Dalton Inn Claremorris at 8pm on Monday the 2nd of November, any matters arising during the year re events or other can be taken up at this meeting. We are also looking for a delegate to go forward onto the committee, so don’t be shy we all have to play our part.

Connacht awards

Will take place on Friday the 6th of November at 8.00pm at the TF Royal Castlebar, Club members have won prizes in the Mayo, Connacht, TT and MTB leagues plus medals at the open Connacht championships for road, TT and hill climb so we expect a big turn out from club members to support our winners.

CLUB AGM

Will take place in O Malley bar Glebe St on Tuesday the 10th of November at 8pm. All members are requested in attend as your input is dearly required so the club can progress.

Connacht MTB CHAMPS

The Connacht Mountain Biking Championships will take place in Cong Woods on Sunday the 18th of October.

This will be an open race as well, so all are welcome.

Races for all categories, Elite, Expert, Sport, Novice, Ladies, Juniors and youths U12-U16

Sign on from 11am at the Pigeon Hole Cong approx 2miles from Cong out the Clonbur road follow the brown sign posts to pigeon hole.

Sign On open from 11am at woods entrance, course will be set out from 10.30am

Youths start at 12noon, seniors at 1pm.

ROLLER/ TURBO MARATHON FUNDRAISER

The clubs main fund raiser for 2009 will take place on Saturday the 28th of November in conjunction with Ballinrobe’s town special shopping incentive day.

The idea is to have stationary bike attached to Turbo trainers up on a trailer in the cornmarket for 10hrs starting at 10am and finishing around 8pm that evening.

We will be looking for people to volunteer their time for collecting as well as for cycling, there will be more on this closer to the time.
