It was a profitable weekend for the cyclists of Western Lakes Cycling Club, with activity on three front and in two countries.
Padraig Marrey finished well up in the opening stage of the FBD Milk Ras from Dublin to Emyvale, Co. Monaghan.
“It was a tough day’s racing with a lot of crashes in the wet conditions, so I was happy with where I finished near the front of what was left of the main bunch after all the crashes,” said Padraig.
In Belgium, 15 year-old William Connolly posted a top twenty finish in a major junior race, and keeps alive his hopes of making a place in the Irish team in this summer’s European Youth Olympics. William’s speciality is the time trial and he may get a slot on the Irish squad in this discipline.
Meanwhile, a large bunch of club cyclists completed the Croi Tour de Lough Corrib charity cycle on Sunday.
The members who completed the 80-mile spin were Dermot Flaherty, Noel Gibbons, John Culhane, Pat Kennedy, Liam Horan, Joe Marrey, Pat Grimes, Mary Mulchrone, Sean McGuinness, Stephen Carney, Martin Munroe, Mickey Heneghan, and John Maguire.
