WESTERN Lakes cyclist Martin Munroe has been selected on the Irish team for the World Junior Championships in Verona, Italy, from September 26th to October 3rd.

This follows his appearance in the European Youth Olympics last summer, and consolidates his position as one of the top young cyclists in the country.

The event will consist of a 14.7km Time Trial on a smooth road with just one slight drag, and a road race over much more demanding terrain.

The road race is 130km over a very hilly course that will test all cyclists to the extreme. “This is a huge honour for Martin, Western Lakes, and Mayo cycling in general,” said Breege Connolly, chairperson, Western Lakes Cycling Club.

Martin clinched his place on the Irish team with a very impressive ride in the Junior Tour of Ireland earlier this month.
