Kerry cyclist conquers Tourmakeady mountain

  KERRY rider Paul Griffin, from the Earl of Desmond club, was the winner of the Senior A category in the National Hill-climbing Championships, held on Lally’s Mountain, Tourmakeady, on Sunday.

  Paul had just over three seconds to spare from Cong, Co. Mayo, cyclist David O’Loughlin (www.totalycycling.com team), with another Earl of Demond man, Brendan Lacey, in third position.

  The event was hosted by Western Lakes Cycling Club, who also hosted the Connacht championship at the same venue a week earlier.

  Senior A: 1 Paul Griffin, Earl of Desmond, 11minutes, 23.13 seconds; 2 David O’Loughlin, www.totalcycling.com, 11m 26.29; 3 Brendan Lacey, Earl of Desmond, 12m 55.52; 4 Philip Finnegan, Cycleways/Lee Strand, 12m 56.42; 5 Ciaran Steed, Hillcrest Hire Killucan, 13m 13.63; 6 Emmet Hogan, Galway Bay, 13m 16.95;

  Senior B: 1 Odran Connors, Orwell, Dundrum, 13m 48.39; 2 John James Flaherty, Western Lakes, 15m 46.43;

  Senior C: 1 Dave McLoughlin, Orwell, Dundrum, 14m 13.26; 2 Niall Brosnan, Earl of Desmond, 14m 49.22; 3 Noel Gibbons, Western Lakes, 15m 31.30;

  Junior: 1 Ronan McLaughlin, Foyle CC, 13m 43.20; 2 John Gill, Western Lakes, 16m 04.59;
