On Your Bike for 25th Birthday Celebrations

The annual Conamara Bog Week 2009 starts Friday May 22nd and finishes Bank Holiday Monday June 1st. This is the 25th year that CEECC Letterfrack are running their Conamara Bog and Sea Week Festivals and lots of special events are planned for this 25th birthday.

One of the special events for Bog Week ’09 will be two cycle races which are being run in conjunction with Western Lakes Cycling Club. There will be two days of cycling – a 65km event – The Conamara Bog Week Grand Prix – on Saturday 23rd – 4pm, and a 100km event – The Gogarty Cup – on Sunday 24th at 12.00pm. Sign in at The Bards Den, Letterfrack for each event.

This promises to be a great weekend of cycling with some fine riders taking part, a great course and plenty of high quality music over the weekend. Renvyle House Hotel are the generous sponsors of the two day event. These races put cycling on the map in the Conamara area and give support and encouragement to local riders such as John James Flaherty and John O’Halloran who have been wonderful advocates for cycling, a considerable sport in Conamara.

Conamara Bog Week is a celebration of landscape with many facets – an art exhibition; sean nos dance workshops; music workshops; walking events culminating in the Conamara Walkabout featuring poets, musicians and scientists exploring landscape together. A schools programme runs throughout the week and the launch of the Connemara Lamb Pie in Renvyle House Hotel. Some of Irelands finest singers, musicians, poets and dancers will be on hand to make this a memorable week.
