Western Lakes CC racing results 2009
This season was arguably one of the club’s best to date, winning Connacht and national medals.
Open race results 4 Race Wins; 2 Seconds and one 3rd .
The season got off to a flying start in April when Padraic Marrey was 3rd , 6TH and 8TH on stages in Gorey – 3 day. To finish 5th overall. Success for Padraic again in May when he won The Gogarty Cup in a sprint finish in Renvyle. Also in May, in RAS Dun na Gall, Mark Dowling finished 3RD in General Classement overall. Into June and the RAS Connachta, Padraic Marrey won the final Stage into Westport. At the Connacht Champs Road Race, Padraig took 2nd in A category and 3rd overall, JJ Flaherty Was 3rd in B cat, Joe Marrey was 3rd in C category, The club got silver in the Team competition. Connacht Hill Climb, Constaine Bartels and Padraig Marrey won gold and Joe Marrey won a bronze. Connacht TT CHAMPS the club won medals with Brian Martin & Padraig Marrey both winning silver and also taking silver in the team competition with JJ Flaherty being the 3rd team member. Connacht league the club scored in most rounds with Padraig Marrey winning round 1, and placing 3 riders in the top ten In Mayo league the club was also well represented, winning 2 rounds and finishing 2nd in 2 rounds. 4 members were in the top 10 overall. Connacht Time Trail league, Brian Martin was 2nd in the overall of the Senior C competition and Padraig Marrey was also 2nd in the A competition. In the Ballinrobe Two Day in August, both Constantine Bartel and Gerard Hack took Stage Wins. With Gerard winning the Green jersey overall. Joe Marrey was 6th in the final stage. At The MTB National Champs in Dromara Brendan Scullion won a bronze medal in the U16 competition. At the Connacht MTB champs the seniors did well again with Gary Collins winning the Sport section and Padraig winning Gold and the overall. At the National Time Trial All Ireland champships Padraig and Joe Marrey won the Gold in the tandem event.At the Connacht Presentation night on November 6th the club had the honor of 15 of its cyclist receiving prizes at various Connacht Road race, Time Trial, Mayo, MTB summer and winter leagues: in the seniors Joe & Padraig Marrey, Graham Casey, John Murphy, Constaine Bartels, JJ Flaherty, Gary Collins, Brian Martin and in the Youths Hazel & Brendan Scullion, Seamus Walsh, Mark Finnerty, Kevin Vahey, Neil Hughes, Mark Biggins all won one or more prizes each.
There were also a number of placing, beginning with Padraig Marrey taking 3rd place in the Waller Cup in March. J.J. Flaherty took an unplaced prize in the Brian McNamara Memorial in June. Constaine Bartels was 6th in Mayo GP
The Club was represented in 14 Open Races and 4 Stage Races during the season.
The club league is recruiting new racers all the time so in the next few years we might even have more results.
