Severe weather condition hampers club league

The monsoon type conditions that hit Tullycross last Thursday evening could only be described as atrocious.

Still 30 brave cyclist took to the start line for the 26 mile handicap race.

The race was split into 3 groups with 15mins separating front to back.

The scratch group was by far the biggest on the road with 15 riders, and they soon caught riders that were dropped from the second group, as weather conditions deteoriated the cyclists in the front groups found it hard to get shelter from the strong winds which more the hampered their efforts to hold of the scratch riders.

With 4 miles to go the scratch riders caught all the front runners and it looked like a bunch sprint was on the cards but Jason Prendergast Covey had other ideas when he jumped the senior riders pulling out a sizable lead before a big effort was made in the closing stages by the bunch, the young Covey riders made the going tough with repeated attacks with the kms ticking away Gert Hack soon took matters into his own hands when he lead out the bunch with 2kms to go thus preventing any further attacks, Gert efforts set up a bunch gallop with Padraig Marrey of Western Lakes taking the gallop ahead of the impressive Chris Kennedy Covey and Brendan Scullion Western Lakes netting 3rd.

Big Thanks to all the marshals and helpers on the evening and to Flaherty family for making the refreshments and to the Renvyle Inn for the venue.
