Open meeting.
Next Tuesday the 24th of November at 8pm in Gannon's bar, a meeting will be held for anyone interested in being involved in open water swimming or Triathlon, if the interest is positive then a club may be set up.
This year a group of novice swimmers swam across Lough Mask, and as part of their training they also use the lake for honing their swimming skills for Triathlons so both parties could benefit from a proper structured open water swimming club. This could be the first time a club of this nature is set up for the North Galway South Mayo area.
CYCLE ROLLER/ TURBO MARATHON FUNDRAISER
The Western Lakes Cycling club will hold a fund raiser Roller Marathon on Saturday the 28th of November in conjunction with Ballinrobe’s special shopping incentive day.
There will be 5 /6 stationary bikes positioned on the back of an artic truck with them all wired to speedometers just like in a gym. The idea is that club members will give an hour or 2 of their time to the fundraiser, by either cycling or collecting on the street from the public. The music will be pumping along with the cyclists so that a vibrant atmosphere is created to entice the public to support our active club. The Truck will be located at the Cornmarket outside the new Barber shop.
The day will be a fun event with cyclists spinning away while at the same time attempting to cycle the equivalent distance of a round Ireland trip in 10hrs, a giant map will be erected with the route marked out, and up dated each hour to show the cyclists progress. This will require each participant to cycle for 1hr at an average speed of 25mph so that we can hit the target distance of 1250 miles.
We will also have a stationary bike for members of the public to come and have a go whilst also aiding the GOAL and adding some extra miles to the distance! The spinning will start at 10am and finish around 8pm that evening or when we have the distance covered. We are looking for people to volunteer their time for collecting as well as for cycling.
