Western Lakes riders make mark in the Wee County
Western Lakes Cycling Club members had a good weekend’s racing in Stamullen, Co. Louth - Padraig Marrey won the Senior Category One race for the Brendan O’Carroll Memorial Cup on Saturday evening.
Padraig captured the Cup with a strong sprint finish taking him clear of nine others in the bunch after a hard-fought race.
On Sunday – in the Stamullen Grand Prix – Padraig finished out of the prizes, and the Saturday evening effort may have taken its toll.
Younger brother Joe continued his outstanding form of late by finishing third in the Senior C race on Saturday evening.
On Sunday he was sixth in the Senior C race to complete a productive weekend. Joe recently won a leg of the Mayo League at Srah and is having a fine season.
Martin Munroe rode splendidly on Sunday to finish in ninth position in the Senior A race – even though he was the youngest rider in the race. Martin rode the Senior race rather than the Juniors as he is preparing for the Tour of Paco in Marseilles, where he will ride with the Irish junior team.
On Saturday evening, William Connolly, also of Western Lakes, came third in the U16 race, and was fourth on Sunday.
The next outing in the Mayo League takes place this Tuesday evening, April 19, in Srah at 7o’c. Sign-on is from 6.30pm onwards in Partry Community Centre.
