Sun Shines on Derroura

The Kearney Cycles sponsored Derroura Time Trail Challenge, turned out to be a great day for all, 58 riders signed on to get timed around the 17kilometers rugged landscape, the weather could not have been better with beautiful sunshine all day for riders and spectators.

Participants came as far away as Cork and Sligo to the Connemara Mountain Biking hot spot, the course which was opened just one year ago has now a proper official time with Padraig Marrey Western Lakes turning on the power to set a new course record of 44minutes 22 seconds.

Youth riders took part in a shortened version on the course where Red Cross officials were on hand in case of any mishaps, luckily there were only a few minor scrapes to deal with.

The Trail is well known for its lovely snaked board walks and rugged single track which gets the best out of the riders who take it on, Coillte who have invested in this project are very keen to see this trail developed even further and are hoping its usage will increase over the next few years.

David O Loughlin An Post Sean Kelly team, presented the prizes, he himself not riding due to illness.
