YOUTH CYCLING SKILLS
The coming weekends sees local cycling club Western Lakes CC launching a major recruitment drive for underage cycling in Mayo. The project is being launched in conjunction with Cycling Ireland the official governing body for cycling on the island. The initial programme will be skills based designed to teach kids basic bike handling using a variety of obstacle courses in a set out car park. This will be followed by road safety and mid week competitions. The event is targeted at children over 10 and up to 14 years of age. No specialist equipment is required other than a bicycle of any description in good working order and a helmet!!
The programme will run on Saturday mornings in the Cycling Centre on the Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe at a nominal charge of €2. The event promises to be good craic with both individual and team events. Parents are invited to come along to watch or even give a hand. It will give many kids a chance to put the mountain bikes they got for Christmas to the test. Who knows we may even find another Sean Kelly, Stephen Roche or even our own local David O’Loughlin out there!! For more information on the events contact Gerry on 087-2580294 or to find more about the Western Lakes Club check out our website www.westernlakescc.com
